At some point, every business says, “We need to update our website.” But that phrase can mean very different things depending on who’s saying it. Are you referring to fixing a technical issue or refreshing your visuals, or just replacing a few lines of text?
Before we talk about how website updates are done, it’s worth clarifying what we actually mean by an ‘update.’
1. Not All Website Updates Are the Same
At STORM Design, we typically divide updates into three main types:
Technical Updates
These involve the website’s functionality or performance. For example, adding a new feature, improving page load times, integrating payment systems, or applying security patches. They’re about improving the website functionality, keeping your site stable, fast, and compatible with the latest technologies.
Design Updates
This refers to the layout, look, and user experience. Maybe your brand identity evolved, or you want a cleaner homepage. Design updates ensure the site still feels modern, on-brand, and intuitive for your users.
Content Updates
This is about the information your audience sees – text, images, videos, blog posts, and pages. Content updates are what keep your site relevant, accurate, and engaging over time.
2. The Content You Can Manage Yourself
Every website we build comes with a content management system (most of the time we use WordPress), allowing you to make updates independently, therefore no coding knowledge is required. From editing your team page to publishing a new case study, everything can be managed through a clean, intuitive dashboard.
We also include one-to-one training sessions as part of our projects, ensuring you as a business owner or your team feels confident handling day-to-day content updates without needing external support for every small change.
3. Prefer to Have Us Handle It? No Problem.
Some clients prefer focusing on their business rather than the back-end of their website. We completely understand that.
That’s why we offer two options:
- Ad-hoc support: request content or design updates whenever you need them.
- Annual maintenance packages: ideal for businesses that want regular updates, backups, and ongoing support, without worrying about hourly costs.
4. Keeping Your Website Alive
Your website isn’t a static tourist brochure, it’s a living part of your brand. Regular updates, whether technical, design, or content-related, keep it performing well and aligned with your goals.
At STORM Design, we make sure that whatever type of update you need, it’s done efficiently, securely, and with your long-term digital presence in mind.
